Information we collect
Information you give us
- When you order: your name, phone number, delivery address and town, and the products you order.
- When you pay: the M-Pesa phone number you pay from and the payment reference. We never see or store your M-Pesa PIN.
- When you contact us by WhatsApp, phone or email: your phone number or email address and what you tell us, such as questions, quotation requests and photos.
- When you leave a review: the name you give, your rating and your comments.
- When you book training or a farm visit: your name, phone number and the details you provide.
Information collected automatically
- Usage information: the pages you visit, the products you view, the device and browser you use, your approximate location (from your IP address) and the website that sent you to us.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files that keep your basket working between visits and help us understand how the website is used (see "Cookies and analytics" below).
How we use your information
- To process, pack and deliver your order, and to confirm it with you.
- To take payment, including M-Pesa prompts, deposits and pay-on-delivery balances, and to send you receipts.
- To answer your questions, prepare quotations and give after-sales support and warranty service.
- To send you order updates and, where you have dealt with us before, occasional offers and new product news on WhatsApp or SMS. You can opt out at any time (see "Your rights").
- To ask you to review a product you bought.
- To understand which products and pages people find useful, measure our advertising, and improve the website.
- To keep records we are required to keep by law, such as tax records, and to prevent fraud.
We use your information on these legal grounds: to perform our contract with you (your order), our legitimate interest in running and improving our business, your consent (for marketing and non-essential cookies), and compliance with the law.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business, and only as much as they need:
- Payment processors (Paystack and Safaricom M-PESA) to collect your payments.
- Delivery partners (couriers, bus and parcel services, riders): your name, phone number and delivery address, so they can deliver your order.
- Our e-commerce and messaging platform (Mapeni Pay), which hosts this website, our orders and our WhatsApp messages on our behalf.
- Meta (WhatsApp) when you message us on WhatsApp.
- Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads) for website statistics and to measure our adverts (see below).
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect our rights, our customers or the public.
Some of these providers store data on servers outside Kenya. Where that happens, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards to protect your information, as the Data Protection Act requires.
Cookies and analytics
We use:
- Essential storage to remember your basket and checkout details on your device. The website cannot work properly without it.
- Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Google receives usage information such as pages viewed and device type.
- Google Ads conversion tracking to tell whether someone who clicked one of our adverts went on to contact us or place an order. This helps us spend our advertising budget well.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on. Learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
How long we keep it
- Order and payment records: at least 5 years, as Kenyan tax law requires.
- WhatsApp and other messages: as long as needed to serve you and handle any follow-up or warranty claim.
- Marketing contacts: until you opt out.
- Website statistics: kept by Google for up to 14 months.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to customer information is limited to the staff and providers who need it to serve you, and payment card and M-Pesa credentials are handled by the payment processors, not stored by us. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the Data Commissioner of any breach that puts you at risk, as the law requires.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used (this policy);
- see the personal data we hold about you;
- have wrong or incomplete data corrected;
- have data deleted, where we have no legal need to keep it;
- object to, or withdraw consent for, marketing and other processing based on consent.
To use any of these rights, call or WhatsApp 0727 087 285 or email info@ecochickspoultry.com. To stop marketing messages, simply reply STOP to any of our WhatsApp messages or tell us. We will respond within 14 days.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).
Children
Our products and website are for adults running farms and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.
Links to other websites
Our website links to other sites and services, such as WhatsApp, Google Maps and YouTube. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
